Eight months later…
“Which box is this meant to go into?” questioned Xanthe, holding the odd misshapen vase that had somehow made it into my collection of souvenirs of travels.
“The one over near the fridge, I’m putting all the breakables in it,” I remarked, trying my best to force the box filled with shoes closed, finally managing to make the two cardboards side met I haphazardly placed the piece of duct tape over it, praying that it wouldn’t come undone during the move.
“And tell me again why you’re moving?” asked Xanthe, still inspecting the strange vase in her hands instead
“Cassie, hey, are you paying attention?”
Swivelling on the spot I turned to face my friend, the packet I was reading still clutched in my hand as I considered the fact that my friend, who happened to be older than me, was acting like a child with a plastic pail on their head as if it were a hat. Sighing I rolled my eyes, “Yes, I’m paying attention Xanthe.”
“Why aren’t you laughing?” she asked, prodding me in the side sharply, my hand only slapping at bare air as I tried to shoo her away. “You’ve been very uptight lately,” she commented, removing the bucket from her head.
